Summer teachers participate in an initial orientation and extensive training week as well as on-going training sessions. They will be trained by professional teachers in curriculum implementation, lesson planning, behavior management as well as assessment of learning. As many of them will not be of the same backgrounds as the students, members will be trained in appreciating diversity and celebrating differences. They are also trained in leadership skills as well as their rights and civic responsibilities as members of a democratic society.


Summerbridge teachers were compared to those of Summerbridge teachers in other cities. These were the results post summer survey results:

• 100% felt that the training they received during orientation week sufficiently prepared them for teaching as compared to 86% nationally
  
  
• 95% received professional development opportunities and workshops over the summer as compared to 73% nationally
  
  
• 100% felt the director was clear and communicative about expectations and guidelines for both the students and teachers as compared to 77-83% nationally
  
  
• 100% felt they achieved significant academic gains with their students as compared to 95% nationally
  
  
• 95% were satisfied with their students’ academic gains as compared to 88% nationally
  
  
• 100% were satisfied with their SB experience as compared to 95% nationally
