History

The original Summerbridge program was founded in 1978 at University High School in San Francisco. In 1990 Isidore Newman School became the first school to replicate the Summerbridge program. There are now 28 programs throughout the United States and in Hong Kong. Summerbridge New Orleans began as a direct result of the well-documented condition of children attending Orleans Parish Public Schools.


Mission

The mission of Summerbridge is to prepare public middle school students for academically rigorous educational experiences and to inspire high school and college students to enter the field of education or, at the very least, become advocates for educational equity.
